Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust is seeking a committed, proactive and reliable Caretaker to join our Estates Team. This is a key operational role supporting the delivery of safe, secure and well-maintained school environments across a number of primary sites within the Harrogate locality.
Working Across the Trust
This role will be based at St Peter’s CE Primary School but will also involve supporting other local Trust schools as required. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed for travel between sites.
We welcome applications from candidates interested in either:
- A single role working across multiple sites; or
- A job share arrangement across two individuals
Whether this role is undertaken by a single postholder, or as a job share arrangement, additional hours are likely to be available during school holidays.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided, particularly for those working across multiple locations.
Role 1
Location: St Peter’s CE Primary School, Harrogate (Base)
Contract: 15 hours per week, ideally between 6.30am to 9.30am
Role 2
Location: Oatlands Infant School, Harrogate
Contract: 10 hours per week, ideally between 7.00am to 9.00am
Role 3
Location: The Fellowship of All Saints, Kirkby Overblow and North Rigton CE Primary Schools
Contract: 3 hours per week, working pattern to be agreed, the role predominantly involves statutory ad compliance testing
The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of practical responsibilities including:
- Site security (opening and closing premises)
- Routine maintenance and basic repairs
- Health and safety checks and compliance monitoring
- Porterage and room setup
- Grounds maintenance and general upkeep
- Supporting contractors and ensuring works are completed safely
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in high standards, and can respond effectively to day-to-day operational challenges.
About You
We are looking for an individual who:
- Has strong practical skills (e.g. DIY, basic joinery, painting and general maintenance)
- Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving ability
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a wider team
- Is reliable, flexible and committed to delivering high standards
- Has a good understanding of health and safety requirements
- Is willing to learn and develop skills across multiple site environments
You may be required to respond to emergency callouts, including during adverse weather or unforeseen incidents. Additional payment or time off in lieu will be provided in these circumstances. You will also learn the operation of further sites within the Trust.
