Cover Manager

Great Western Academy · Swindon

Job description

Advert for Cover Manager required for 1st September 2026

Salary £29,068 per annum

Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Do you want to motivate and inspire students to achieve great results? Are you enthusiastic and committed? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant academy with a supportive staff team as a Cover Manager and Supervisor.

Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the -art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018 and now accommodates over 1,000 students in years 7 to 11 and the Sixth Form. A-level cohorts have achieved excellent results and enabled 98% of university applicants to take up their offers. Our GCSE results have also been excellent and have showed that the progress made by the large majority of our year 11 students has been excellent, particularly in English and Maths. This includes students of all abilities.

We are seeking to appoint one person to a combined Cover Manager and Supervisor role, with two distinct aspects as detailed below.:

Cover Manager

Due to the nature of the role the cover management duties need to be completed each day between the hours of 7.30am and 8.30am. This aspect of this part of the role is to oversee arrangements for the cover of lessons needed each day in the absence of teaching staff. Responsibilities would require the successful applicant to record and respond to staff absences, allocate cover staff to lessons, and work with the designated member of our Senior Leadership Team to manage our lesson cover processes effectively and efficiently.

Cover Supervisor

This is the larger aspect of the role and will fill the remainder of the working day between 8.30am and 3.30pm. It involves covering lessons across the school for a variety of subjects when staff are absent. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to support students in lessons when no cover is required. The role would suit anyone who can show a passion for encouraging students to learn and could also serve as excellent experience for someone wanting to train to be a teacher in the future.

Additional benefits of working at GWA include:

Excellent CPD programme

State of the art facilities

Leading edge ICT, including a laptop provided for all staff and pupils

Easy access to the A419 with free parking on site

Medical and Wellbeing Support Service

Flexible working opportunities
