Band F SCP 26 - 31 (£37,280 - £41,771 per annum) plus excellent benefits
37 hours per week - Fixed term contract until 31st March 2028
The DECCA (Drug Education, Counselling and Confidential Advice) Team are looking to fill their new Targeted Prevention Worker post, this is fixed term contract until 31st March 2028. We would also like to offer this as a secondment opportunity, for staff within SCT and SMBC.
The potential candidate would have extensive experience of working with vulnerable young people, ideally hold a professional qualification in working with young people and have a desire to effect change in the lives of young people through education and intervention.
The role would be about delivery of education/prevention sessions and partnership working to put together groups/programmes, resources and individual interventions in both mainstream/alternative education and community settings.
An emphasis on creative fun and engaging projects and methods of delivery to specifically engage with YP who are currently at risk of disengaging from mainstream services and their community and while vulnerable to substance misuse and other risks do not view themselves as such.
Through a more ‘activity based’ and relationship building approach you would both enhance delivery of substance misuse preventative education and awareness as well as address contextual and Safeguarding risks that under 18’s face and help position both adult and under 18 substance misuse services as something they can access in the future.
About you:
- You will hold an appropriate professional qualification in either Community Psychiatric Nursing, Youth Work, Social Work, or a relevant degree i.e. Psychology, Addiction Studies, Education.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with Young People in the field of Education, mentoring, drug treatment or related fields requiring education, psycho-social interventions and group activity.
- Knowledge of drug use interventions and strategies for engaging young people.
- Knowledge of the law related to drug use.
- Enthusiasm, resilience and proven ability to engage and sustain relationships with young people in educational and community settings.
