As part of Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust implementation of the Medical Examiner service across East Surrey, we have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Examiner Officer. This role has been developed as part of the national implementation of the Medical Examiner service throughout England and Wales and as such will be responsible for supporting the continued development of a the Medical Examiner service, including extending the service into the non-acute sector when the Medical Examiner service becomes statutory.
As Medical Examiner Officer you will work closely with the Senior MEOs and the Medical Examiners team supporting them in their role of scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death of patients, working in collaboration with a wide range of internal and external colleagues. This will include clinical understanding to ensure necessary paperwork is accurate and complete together with excellent communication skills for liaison with doctors, nurses, families, and where appropriate, the coroner's and registration services.
This will also involve the reviewing of patient notes and gathering information that the medical examiner requires for the scrutiny of medical records, and highlighting cases for either Structured Judgement Reviews (SJR) or assessment by the Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP), and the Learning Disability Review programme (LeDeR), therefore, a good working knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
