The Governing Body are seeking to appoint a motivated, reliable and suitably experienced individual to the post of School Receptionist and Administrative Assistant, to provide a vital front-of -house service and to work alongside our collaborative School Admin Team who work together to keep the school running smoothly.
St Thomas More is a good school (Ofsted 2022) committed to high standards of growth and professional development. The school is popular – always oversubscribed beyond our admission limit – and well respected in the local community. We are a successful school with a large Sixth Form located near Willenhall, with easy access to the M6 motorway network.
As the first point of contact for students, staff, parents, carers and visitors, the successful candidate will play a central role in promoting our Catholic ethos while ensuring the safety, smooth running and welcoming atmosphere of our school. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about delivering a high-quality support service, is highly organised and can work in a fast-paced environment whilst providing a warm and professional welcome to all.
The Role
- Safeguarding & Visitor Management — Act as the gatekeeper for the school, controlling access via Reception, verifying ID, monitoring entry/exit and ensuring all visitors follow statutory procedures.
- Front‑of‑House Reception — Provide a warm welcome to all visitors while maintaining vigilance, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Student Support — Assist students with day‑to‑day queries, timetable questions and general guidance.
- Communication Handling — Manage incoming calls, emails and messages, ensuring timely and accurate communication with colleagues and parents.
- Administrative Support — Deliver high‑quality admin support to the School Admin Team, including record keeping, data entry, photocopying, meeting room bookings and supporting school events.
- Upholding School Ethos — Represent the school’s values in every interaction and support our mission and aims.
The successful candidate will have:
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent
- A friendly, approachable and professional manner
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask
- Confidence in managing safeguarding procedures and challenging situations
- Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone
- Ability to remain calm, respectful and solution‑focused during busy or difficult moments
- Good ICT skills and competence with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms)
- A commitment to supporting the Catholic ethos of the school
