Job description

We have an opportunity for a Generic Revenues & Benefits Officer to work in our Revenues and Benefits team.

The main duties of the role include administration of Council Tax, Business Rates Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support dealing with queries via telephone, in writing and email making decisions in line with government legislation and council policy.

You will be able to demonstrate effective team working and problem solving skills and the ability to combine these with a confident and resilient personality. Dealing with customer enquiries and correspondence ensuring efficiency and accountability whilst adhering to relevant legislative provisions, council policy and financial regulations previous experience working in a fast paced office environment is desirable.

You will be able to demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development. Have an excellent understanding of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support legislation, regulations and working practices.

You will have experience of administering and collecting Council Tax and Business Rates. With knowledge of the various Discounts, Disregards and Exemptions qualifying criteria and what level of reduction to apply. Processing Local Council Tax Support and Housing Benefits claims; collecting all information to allow an assessment to be made and applying the appropriate reduction; be familiar with collecting overpayments.

You will be used to working under pressure, to tight deadlines and cope with conflicting priorities. As well as numerate, you will need to interrogate and input data into a variety of software systems which requires an eye for detail and accuracy.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team and on their own initiative. The Revenues Section works within the General Data Protection Act 2018 so the applicant must carry out their duties with complete confidentiality.
