About the Role

We’re recruiting one Roads Operative to join our Roads Service teams at Castle Douglas. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving the region’s road network, working outdoors in a practical, hands‑on environment.

What You’ll Do

Carry out a wide range of road maintenance and construction tasks

Lay paving slabs, kerbs, concrete and asphalt

Undertake drainage works

Set up and remove temporary traffic management (signs, cones, barriers)

Support winter maintenance, including gritting, snow clearance and flood response

Summer standby; weather - flood response, general enquiries

Operate plant and machinery such as rollers, mini excavators, disc cutters and breakers

What We’re Looking For

Practical, hands‑on approach with a focus on safety

Ability to work as part of a team in all weather conditions

Willingness to take part in winter maintenance duties

A full driving licence is highly desirable

Interest in gaining further qualifications – opportunities for goods vehicle training are available
