Job description

West Grantham Church of England Primary Academy is seeking to appoint a caring, dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in our Early Years Foundation Stage with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a child’s educational experience through targeted, personalised support.

About the Role

This role is specifically linked to supporting a pupil with an EHCP and will involve:

  • Providing 1:1 and targeted support to enable access to learning and promote progress
  • Supporting a range of additional needs, including communication, sensory, physical and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Delivering structured interventions and adapting activities to meet individual needs
  • Supporting sensory regulation, including sensory circuits, movement breaks and tailored strategies
  • Using approaches such as co-regulation, emotional coaching and restorative practice
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals (e.g. SALT, Occupational Therapy) to implement specialist recommendations
  • Contributing to EHCP reviews, individual plans and target setting, and providing regular feedback on progress
  • Supporting the pupil’s independence, engagement and integration within the classroom and wider school environment

You will play a key role in ensuring the pupil feels safe, supported and able to achieve their full potential.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of supporting pupils with SEND, particularly within EYFS or primary settings
  • Has a good understanding of EHCP provision and personalised learning approaches
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy and a nurturing approach
  • Is confident in supporting behaviour, emotional regulation and communication needs
  • Can work collaboratively with staff, parents and external professionals
  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE or equivalent)
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Additional Information

  • Contract: Fixed term until 31 August 2027
  • Hours: 32.50 per week for 39 weeks per year
  • Pro rata salary: £19,307 to £19,926
  • Please note: This post is linked to a specific pupil with an EHCP and will cease earlier should the pupil leave the school or the associated funding end
