Job description

About Monksmead School

Monksmead is a one-form entry maintained primary school serving Reception to Year 6 in Borehamwood. We are proud of our warm, respectful community and our commitment to “Respect, Reflect, Believe, Succeed.”

We have a high proportion of pupils with EHCPs and SEN, and we take seriously our role to educate and nurture each individual so they can thrive. We are looking for a part-time teacher (three days per week) who can co-lead our internal alternative provision class. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of teaching children with a range of complex additional needs, and who is passionate about making a difference. The children in this class are a range of ages from Reception Class through to Year 6.

About the role

As a Class Teacher at Monksmead you will:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons that meet the needs of all pupils assigned to you
  • Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, using this information to adapt teaching
  • Contribute positively to whole-school developments, curriculum planning and the school’s values
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom where behaviour is managed effectively and all pupils can learn
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and external professionals to secure the best outcomes for pupils
  • Participate in appraisal and continuing professional development activities

This role offers real scope to make an immediate impact: you will be joining a school determined to raise attainment in key areas and to strengthen curriculum leadership across all phases.

About you — the ideal candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Is UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) registered and has current/recent school experience
  • Sets high expectations and consistently aims to teach at least ‘Good’ (or better) outcomes across age and ability ranges
  • Has strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a supportive learning environment
  • Is committed to inclusion and is skilled at adapting practice to meet the needs of pupils with additional needs
  • Has recent and relevant experience teaching children with a range of complex needs
  • Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers and colleagues
  • Is enthusiastic, adaptive, reflective, innovative and eager to develop professionally

This role is not appropriate for an ECT teacher.

If you are passionate about teaching and learning, enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and want to contribute to a school community where every pupil matters, you will fit well at Monksmead.

What we offer

  • A friendly, supportive staff team and an inclusive school community
  • Clear professional development opportunities, including appraisal and targeted training to support our school priorities (maths fluency, writing and subject leadership)
