Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to begin your career in finance while gaining valuable qualifications and hands-on experience?
At the Port of Dover, we're seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Finance Apprentice to join our Finance Department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong numerical skills and a desire to learn, develop practical accounting knowledge, and work towards professional AAT qualifications.
As a Finance Apprentice, you'll gain exposure across both our Transactions Team and Financial & Management Accounting Team, learning how a busy finance function supports one of the UK's most important transport and logistics hubs.
This apprenticeship will be for up to 15 months plus end point assessment
What You'll Be Doing
Working alongside experienced finance professionals, you'll receive on-the-job training and support while developing key accounting and finance skills.
Transactions Team
You'll learn and support a variety of essential financial processes, including:
- Raising customer invoices and ensuring data accuracy.
- Learning the principles of cash management and providing support when required.
- Assisting with Accounts Payable activities.
- Supporting weekly BACS payment runs.
- Ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintaining compliance with financial policies, procedures, and controls.
Financial & Management Accounting
- Reviewing cost and revenue coding and posting correction journals where required.
- Calculating routine accruals and prepayments as part of the month-end process.
- Posting journals to support the production of management and statutory accounts.
- Supporting balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
- Preparing schedules and supporting documentation for the annual external audit.
What We're Looking For
This role would suit someone who is eager to learn, organised, and looking to build a long-term career in finance.
Essential Requirements
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English Language.
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to study towards AAT Level 2 and/or Level 3 qualifications.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 37.5 per week
Salary: Starting at £15,600 per annum

All offers of employment are subject to us obtaining satisfactory references (covering all education, training, employment and unemployment in the preceding 5 years) and there will be a pre-employment medical including a Drug and Alcohol test. We need to satisfy your Right to Work in the UK.
