This post is attached to colorectal surgical speciality based within the Colorectal Unit (Ward 46) / Newcastle Centre for Bowel Disease Research Hub. The individual will work primarily on innovation and research projects within the commercial and NIHR research portfolios but may on occasion, based on trainee appetite, supplement the F2/CST tier and as such be expected to perform duties and take clinical responsibility to this level.

Essential: - Primary Medical Qualification; - Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at the time of application; - Satisfactory completion of Foundation Training (or equivalent).; - Evidence of smooth progression through training programmes
Desirable: - Certificate in Clinical Education; - ALS, ALTS, CCrISP; - Certificate in GCP /research competency; - Previous research experience
Essential: - Good history & examination skills; - Able to formulate a working diagnosis.; - Able to order appropriate investigations; - Image interpretation relevant to practice; - Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.; - Previous Paid NHS work experience at the time of application (this does not include Clinical Access / Attachment or Clinical Observership placements).
Desirable: - IT skills.; - Ability to perform basic surgical or vascular access procedures.
Essential: - Ability to run a service and participate in management process.; - Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce.; - Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues; - An understanding of Clinical Governance
Desirable: - Proven management and administration ability; - Understanding of management goals; - Experience with audit; - Evidence of leadership / project management; - Evidence of having implemented change
Essential: - Experience of supervising junior staff.; - Ability to teach clinical skills
Desirable: - Documented positive feedback from delivered teaching sessions.; - Some knowledge of learning theories
Essential: - Experience of audit projects
Desirable: - Evidence of developing, organising and completing an audit from their own idea.; - Supervising audits undertaken by junior members of the team; - Publication of research in peer reviewed journals and presentation at local, national and international meetings.
