National Highways has an excellent opportunity for an Estates Sustainability Manager to join our Energy and Sustainability Team within the Business Services Directorate (BSD). The Estates Sustainability Manager role is key in embedding change within the Estates & Facilities Management (E&FM) division as we progress to a more sustainable estate. The role will be key to the success of the Estates decarbonisation plan and be highly collaborative across the division to ensure efficiencies across waste, water and energy are found, and sustainable design principles are followed.

Please note this role can be based from any of UK offices however; travel to regional offices to attend team meetings may be required.

  • Responsible for embedding the Estates Decarbonisation Plan, with aims to reduce emissions from energy, water and waste, into the E&FM division through collaborative working, communications and engagement activities, and reporting
  • You will be responsible for the sustainability annex within the Estates and FM design guide, ensuring new build or retrofit depots, outstate.
  • Subject matter expert across environmental sustainability for business case and projects occurring across the Estates and FM.
  • Play a lead role in the Green Network behaviour change campaign, this involves organisation of monthly meetings and annual in-person events to increase engagement and reduce staff impact towards environmental issues.
  • Support the wider E+FM division across all areas of environmental sustainability, including areas such as climate change adaptation and biodiversity, ensuring the division is delivering in line with the Greening Government Commitments and National Highways environmental sustainability strategy.
  • Good organisational and project management skills in order to manage workloads, respond to changing priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Strong understanding of corporate sustainability and a good technical understanding of sustainability in the built environment.
  • Experience working in the built environment industry / sustainability sector working on environmental strategy, behaviour change and resource management
  • A bachelors degree either in a sustainability or built environment subject or gained relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrate experience with carbon reduction project and initiatives.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
