Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint 2 new GPwER posts to work for one day a week in the breast unit. The successful cand...
- Following a period of training, the post holder is expected to see 12 new symptomatic 'one-stop' breast patients in a 4-hour session every week.
- The post holder will also be part of the team setting up 2 important service improvements, which involve community engagement. Namely, a breast pain (mastalgia) pathway and a paediatric service for children and young people with breast problems aged under 17.
- Ongoing mentorship and appraisal will be provided by the clinical lead (breast surgeon).
- There is scope for professional development including access to diagnostic and interventional radiology and theatre.
- There is scope to be involved in research and audit projects.
The post-holder will be responsible to Breast Clinic Lead Dr Karina Cox.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Breast services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
(a) Diagnosis of patients in the breast unit at GSTT.
(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients seen in clinic.
- The post holder must be medically /dentally qualified and maintain GMC or GDC specialist registration and hold a license to practice
- To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trusts translational research portfolio, always meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
- To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas: Clinical efficiency, Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programs and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively, operational efficiency.
- Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.

Essential: - Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice.; - Evidence of continuing professional / personal development.; - Evidence of annual appraisal.; - Provide evidence of completion of training (CCT) in general practice.
Desirable: - Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g MD; PhD; MS; MSc.
Essential: - Comprehensive clinical experience as a GP.; - Be actively working in general practice.; - Be registered on a performers list or equivalent.
Essential: - A team-based approach to care and service management, including appreciation of nursing and therapy roles.; - Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues; clinical and non-clinical, patients and their carers/relatives.
Essential: - Track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required.; - Understanding of principles of audit.
Essential: - Understands the principles of research within clinical practice and evidence-based medicine
Desirable: - Evidence of research experience.
