Senior Assistant Psychologist

An exciting opportunity for a permanent post has arisen within NHFT to deliver integrated healthcare within HMP Littlehey as part of the Mental Health In-Reach Team. The successful candidate will have prior experience working as an Assistant Psychologist.

Please note this post is subject to security vetting. To be considered for this post you will need to have continuously resided in the UK without any breaks for a minimum of 3 years prior to this application and be able to evidence your years of residency. The post holder will be working as a member of the mental health team to provide psychological interventions for a wide range of mental health challenges, including the delivery of psychoeducational groups and one to one work, as well as working with neurodiverse residents. The ability to employ CBT for common mental health challenges is essential but the post holder will also make use of other psychological approaches as necessary to ensure that the most suitable person-centred care is provided.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools.We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

HMP Littlehey is a Category C prison which holds up to 1260 men convicted of sexual offences. Residents may be adults of working age or older, with an average age of the population of 55. We are seeking a candidate who is committed to the delivery of trauma informed care, and passionate to provide a service for an especially stigmatized group of service users who often present with significant histories of traumatic experience.

There will also be the opportunity to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research. The post requires the ability to work alongside partner agencies such as the prison, forensic psychology, and probation services in order to provide residents with care and support while meeting the operational needs of working within a secure setting. The production of reports and communication with partner agencies will require the regular use of professional writing skills.

• An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
• Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
• Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
