Job description

Apprentice Revenues Assistant

Revenues and Benefits

Temporary Contract – up to 2 years

Full time, 37 hours per week

Salary £15,434.29 per annum, increasing to minimum wage for your age after 12 months (Pay award pending)

We’re on the lookout for a person with a forward thinking, growth mindset to join our Revenues and Benefits team as an Apprentice Revenues Assistant.

In addition to helping your team meet their targets and supporting our customers you’ll also be gaining a Revenues & Welfare Benefits Practitioner (level 4) qualification. If you bring your whole self to work, we’ll support you in developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to succeed in this role. Our aim at the end of your apprenticeship would be to help you progress to another role within the team, or the Council, if there are vacancies that you are interested in during your apprenticeship.

You’ll be working with a great, friendly, and experienced team who will be there to support you through your apprenticeship. And if that’s not enough, check out these other benefits you’ll receive:

  • 26 days’ annual leave (increases to 36 based on your length of service)
  • free car parking to March 2028
  • family-friendly benefits
  • flexible working and flexi-time
  • Hybrid working which means that, once you have spent some time in the role, you will be able to split your time between homeworking and working in the office
  • 1 days’ paid volunteering leave per year
  • a health cashback plan
  • access to an employee benefits platform
  • £10/month membership at one of our gyms in the district

You will be a valued part of the team responsible for the effective processing and administration of processes like council tax and business rates. You’ll play an important role in ensuring that your team delivers with excellence in mind and doing the right thing for our customers. This will include a range of tasks such as setting up direct debits, dealing with sensitive information, conducting searches on national databases and preparing refunds for approval.

We are looking for a person with some experience of completing administrative tasks, who can work accurately, with great attention to detail, and who is motivated to get the most out of any learning experience. You will also have GCSE Maths and English at C/4 or above, or equivalent.

A DBS check is required for this role.

For more information, or for an informal discussion about the role, please contact Michelle Brooks or Joanne Hudson, our Senior Revenues Officers, on 01636 655388/381 or at michelle.brooks@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or joanne.hudson@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk

To apply, please complete our application form where you can detail how you meet the essential criteria included in the person specification.
