Job description

Lead Practitioner in Mathematics

(A Level Mathematics Teaching Available)

Required for January 2027 (or sooner if possible)

Are you an exceptional teacher of Mathematics with the ambition, passion and expertise to transform lives through education?

We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Lead Pracitioner of Mathematics to join our highly successful department at St Wilfrid's RC College, one of the most ambitious and rapidly improving schools in the North East.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a school where expectations are high, relationships are strong, and staff are genuinely valued. Our culture is characterised by exceptional standards, calm and purposeful learning environments, outstanding pastoral support, and a relentless commitment to ensuring every student achieves their full potential.

Mathematics sits at the heart of our academic curriculum and is a subject of significant importance across all key stages. We are looking for a teacher who can inspire curiosity, develop confidence and secure excellent outcomes for all students, regardless of starting point.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach A Level Mathematics within the highest-performing Sixth Form in South Tyneside, supporting highly motivated students to achieve exceptional outcomes and progress to Russell Group universities, degree apprenticeships and aspirational careers. Experience of A Level teaching would be welcomed but is not essential for the right candidate.

Why Join St Wilfrid's?

At St Wilfrid's, we believe that outstanding schools are built on outstanding people. We have established a culture where teachers can focus on what matters most: excellent teaching and meaningful relationships with young people.

  • A genuinely supportive and highly collaborative staff team.
  • Excellent pupil behaviour and attitudes to learning.
  • A culture of high expectations matched by high levels of support.
  • Strong and visible leadership committed to staff wellbeing.
  • Outstanding professional development and instructional coaching.
  • Trust-wide opportunities for career progression and leadership development.
  • Access to a thriving and growing sixth form with A Level teaching opportunities.
  • The opportunity to be part of a school making a profound difference to the life chances of young people.

The Person We Are Looking For

  • Is an outstanding or potentially outstanding classroom practitioner.
  • Has a passion for Mathematics and a belief that all students can succeed.
  • Maintains exceptionally high expectations of achievement, behaviour and presentation.
  • Has the ability to build positive and productive relationships with young people.
  • Is committed to continuous professional development and educational excellence.
  • Shares our ambition to deliver a world-class Catholic education.

At St Wilfrid's, our vision is for every child to realise their God-given potential and become the very best version of themselves. We are looking for a colleague who shares this vision and who will play a key role in shaping the future success of our students and our school.

Prospective candidates are warmly encouraged to visit the school and experience first-hand the exceptional culture, relationships and standards that make St Wilfrid's such a special place to work.

St Wilfrid’s RC College is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust which is one of four Trusts in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The Trust includes five Secondary and twenty-five Primary Schools across South Tyneside, Sunderland and East Durham.

Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust safeguards and protects its students and staff by being committed to respond in accordance with South Tyneside Child Protection Procedures. Enhanced DBS checks are mandatory for all school staff.

Electronic signatures will be accepted but candidates will be required to add a written signature to their application when circumstances allow.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of pre-employment checks. An online search will be completed for all shortlisted candidates.

Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults and we expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
