Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Fixed-term Post until 31.03.27.

A dedicated Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to provide high-quality care across antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and gynaecological services at Sunderland Hospital. Responsible for managing both elective and emergency obstetric and gynaecology cases, participating in labour ward cover, outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

You must demonstrate strong clinical leadership with the ability to work effectively within a busy multidisciplinary team, including midwives, junior doctors, anaesthetists, neonatologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. Maintain excellent communication skills and contributes positively to patient safety, service improvement, and teaching/training activities.

You must be a holder of MRCOG, be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within six months of the time of interview.

Work on a 1:16 rota covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Cover sessions including medium risk ANC, GOPD, Caesarean section lists, day case Theatre, and possible Maternal medicine / Diabetes ANC.

Labour ward is covered with a hot week rotation when the same consultant covers Monday to Friday 8:30 to 18:00 every day.

Weekends are split Friday / Sunday and Saturday.

You must also have excellent organisational and communication skills, be a good team worker and have experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates. Direct involvement in delivery of NIHR portfolio clinical research trials is highly desirable.
