Job description

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Northwick Park Chemotherapy Service, and we're looking for skilled and motivated Band 6 SACT Nurses to join our team in the Macmillan Chemotherapy Day Unit.

We have an opening for experienced and passionate nurses with SACT administration experience who are eager to contribute to the development of our Macmillan Chemotherapy Day Unit. We are seeking individuals who are committed, motivated, and forward-thinking to compliment our existing team and provide exceptional care to our patients.

Working pattern is 08:30 to 18:30 x 4 days a week on a rolling rota

The post-holder will provide compassionate, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with Trust values, professional standards, and NMC regulations. Working as a practitioner within the specialist area, they will support the effective delivery of a safe and responsive nursing service, contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for a defined group of patients.

They will ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported through effective communication, providing both clinical and psychosocial support.

In collaboration with senior colleagues and the multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will contribute to the delivery of evidence-based clinical practice in line with current research, national guidance, and Trust priorities. They will maintain clear lines of communication within the specialty team to support cohesive and coordinated care.

The role also involves working collaboratively with wider healthcare teams to enhance knowledge, promote continuity of care across settings, and contribute to ongoing service development and quality improvement within the specialist area.

The post-holder will safely administer SACT in keeping with local and national policy. You will act as a resource, supporting patients and their carers throughout their SACT journey from pre-treatment consultation, pre treatment assessment and treatment until discharge.

Education/ Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse on NMC register
  • Degree or Diploma in nursing
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Teaching Course, and experience of teaching and assessing
  • BLS Certified
  • Recognised SACT qualification
  • oAdvanced Communication Skills Training
  • Post registration qualification in Cancer / Malignant Haematology

Knowledge & Experience

  • Post registration experience within a day care SACT unit
  • Specialist knowledge of a wide range of clinical procedures related to area of practice
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to build effective relationships and supervise junior staff and students.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety, current clinical practice, professional nursing issues, and resource management.

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

  • oExpertise in cannulation and CVAD management
  • oSkilled in phlebotomy
  • oIT literate and can effectively utilise EPR and systems to work and lead the team
  • oAbility to work under pressure, managing time and competing demands with flexibility.
  • o Proven ability to work both in leading and as part of a team.
