Job description
Transforming lives through excellent education London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.
Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.
ABOUT THE POST
Have an idea that could make London Met or our wider community more inclusive?
Do you notice something that could be better, fairer or more inclusive?
Have an idea for a project that could make a positive difference to students, staff or the wider community?
Student Changemakers is a new programme from London Met’s Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEI), giving students the opportunity to turn their ideas into action. We are looking for students who want to identify an issue that matters to them, develop a project idea and lead its delivery with support from the University. This paid opportunity will see you’ gain practical experience, develop your skills and have the chance to create meaningful change.
What will you do?
- Identify an issue, challenge or opportunity for positive change
- Develop an idea for a project that responds to that issue
- Lead on the planning and delivering your project
- Work with other students, University staff and relevant partners
- Listen to and involve others in developing your idea
- Research, plan and organise project activities
- Share your learning and reflect on the impact of your project
- Help us understand what Student Changemakers could look like in the future
Your project could focus on an issue affecting students, the University or the wider community. Your project must also align with one or more of the chosen themes for the academic year 2026/27:
- Belonging and inclusion
- Student success
- Student voice and influence
- Community and connection
- Access and opportunity
How does the opportunity work?
There are two project models - an individual project (one student working up to 50 hours to develop and deliver their project) and a collaborative project (a group of 2-4 students working up to 75 hours shared across a project team). Training hours are also paid.
We are looking for London Met students who:
- Are curious about the issues affecting students, the University or wider communities
- Have an idea, question or area they would like to explore
- Care about creating positive and inclusive change
- Are willing to listen to different perspectives and work with others
- Can commit time to training, project development and delivery
- Are organised and able to manage their time
- Are willing to learn and try new things
You might already have experience of project work, research, campaigning, student representation, events or community activity - but you don't need previous experience to apply. What matters most is your motivation, ideas and willingness to get involved; particularly if you have different experiences, perspectives and ideas.
