Job description

Recruitment is being managed outside of our careers website via Eventbrite. Candidates must register and attend the session (link mentioned below) in order to apply for the role. Further instructions on how to apply will be provided at the event. Please note that there are a maximum of 50 places available at the event, so applicants are advised to register early. Once an event is fully booked, we are unable to offer additional places.

Working Hours: 5 x 12 hours per week (from Jan 2027 this will include Sunday working each week)

Contract Type: 5 x Permanent, Part-time

Additional Payment: Enhancements are paid for weekend working – time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays

Work Location: Central Library but maybe required to work at a branch library from time to time across the city according to service need.

These are permanent jobs and offer the benefits of working for a large local authority.    If you are a people person, have experience and understanding of delivering excellent customer service, along with strong IT skills, then please come and talk to us.   You would:

  • Be the first point of contact for customers:
  • Provide information and deal effectively with customer enquiries, including helping with IT enquiries
  • Carry out general library duties, basic health & safety tasks, handle and bank cash
  • Support a wide range of events and activities for all ages at Central Library
  • Be willing to be flexible and work at another library or location across the city if required.

We have an evening session where you can come and find out about the range of services delivered and the reality of working for libraries, not the fiction. Our library managers will talk individually to everyone who attends, to see whether you have the skills and expertise for this new chapter in your life.
