Job description
We are looking to recruit a pooled receptionist within the Maternity and Obstetrics department here at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. This is a permanent contract, which will requite flexibility in working pattern to ensure the service is covered 7 days a week and could involve working any time in a 24 hour period. You will be required to support all of our reception teams across the department which includes wards and outpatient reception areas.
The post holder will provide a high-quality reception and support service within an inpatient and outpatient setting and as such, will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their relatives, the public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. To provide a support service to the technical staff, a versatile approach is essential and the ability to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously is a prerequisite of this post. - To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
- To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arrangingappointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying testrequests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within thedepartment.
- To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or viathe telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistanceas required.
- To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them beingcalled for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause forconcern.
- To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with departmentpolicy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to theappropriate technical staff.
- To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness forclinical work.
- To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at therequest of staff within the department.
- To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the department.
- To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validatethe patient pathway where appropriate.
- To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessaryto ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patientattending an outpatient clinic. Liaise with external stakeholders to obtainreferrals if necessary.
