Secondment Opportunity: Permanent employees are encouraged to apply and will be supported as part of our workforce development commitment

Salary: Grade F. Scale 17 - £31,022 to Scale 22 - £33,699

Base Location: Tameside One, Market Place, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6BH

Assessment Date: To be arranged

Tameside Council has an exciting opportunity for a Resident Engagement Officer (Home Retrofit) to join the Climate and Energy team.

The role will support a team delivering retrofit measures to help meet the targets in the Greater Manchester 5-year Environment Plan and Retrofit Action Plan which are aiming to make Greater Manchester carbon neutral by 2038.

The main focus of the role will be to support Tameside Council’s delivery of GMCA’s Warm Homes: Local Grant by undertaking engagement activity with residents and landlords. The post holder will be required to plan and host information sessions in public settings as well as engage and support residents on a one-to-one basis within their homes across Tameside.

The energy efficiency improvements and low carbon heating systems installed through these schemes will result in homes that are cheaper to heat, more comfortable to live in, and have less impact on the environment.

This is a fixed term contract running to March 2028.

Tameside Council is seeking an individual with experience of face-to-face customer engagement, conveying technical information in simple to understand language, and persuading residents on retrofitting their homes. The postholder will need to be a self-starter, generating their own workload, including the creation of marketing material and strategies.

A commitment to partnership working is essential, as you will work closely with colleagues at the council, registered providers of social housing, contractors, and a wide range of local partners. Most importantly, we are looking for an individual with a passion for tackling climate change and fuel poverty, as this retrofit-focussed role is an excellent opportunity to have a direct impact on these issues.

The role requires significant knowledge of effective methods for engaging residents, including those who require additional assistance, and of housing retrofit, but would be a great fit for anyone who enjoys interacting with people and making a difference to their lives.

We would require a minimum of 5 GCSE/O levels, including Maths and English
