When a crisis can't wait until morning, our Emergency Duty Team is there.
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and motivated Support Worker to join our dedicated out-of-hours service, supporting residents across the five Tees Valley local authorities. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced Social Workers and partner agencies, helping vulnerable children, adults and families access urgent support during evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
What you'll be doing
As a Support Worker within the Emergency Duty Team, you'll play a key role in ensuring people receive the right support when they need it most.
Working closely with Social Workers and partner agencies, you will:
- Respond to calls from members of the public, professionals, partner agencies and emergency services.
- Arrange emergency accommodation, hotel bookings and transport for people requiring immediate assistance.
- Coordinate emergency food parcels and essential supplies for vulnerable individuals and families.
- Liaise with key partners including Police, Health Services, Housing providers and voluntary organisations.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and provide administrative support to ensure a responsive and effective service.
- Accompany Social Workers on home visits, welfare checks, and other emergency interventions when required.
We're looking for someone who remains calm under pressure, communicates effectively and is passionate about supporting people through difficult situations.
- A qualification in Business Administration, Health and Social Care, or a related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience of working with vulnerable individuals, families or within a customer-focused environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good IT skills and confidence using electronic recording systems.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Sound judgement and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Most importantly, you'll bring empathy, professionalism and a genuine commitment to helping people during times of crisis.
What we're looking for
This is a role for someone who thrives in a varied environment and understands the importance of providing a high-quality service outside of normal working hours.
- Be flexible and able to work across a 7-day rota, including evening shifts, (into the early hours) weekends and bank holidays.
- Be committed to delivering excellent services to vulnerable residents.
- Be confident working alongside a range of professionals and partner agencies.
- Value teamwork, accountability and continuous learning.
- Share our commitment to safeguarding and improving outcomes for children, adults and families across the Tees Valley.
At Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, our people are our greatest asset. In return for your dedication, we offer:
- A competitive salary
- Level 2 Unsociability Allowance of £1,392.74 per annum (pro rata).
- Generous annual leave entitlement. Ability to purchase additional leave is also available.
- Generous Pension Scheme through the LGPS with ability to pay extra and plan for retirement.
- Access to a number of other employee benefits including learning & development opportunities, discounts at high street and online retailers, access to online GP appointments, an employee assistance programme and physiotherapy services.
- Free parking at the Emergency Duty Team office.
- Supportive management and leadership teams.
